Biography of Ortwin Widmann
I am a German citizen, Phil Hellene and dropout.For the past 13 years I´ve been living here on the island of Skiathos . I got to know in 1995 on vacation, and I've been immediately fallen in love. Ursula, my wife, two dogs and six cats are my company.I speak German, Greek and English. My hobbies are Greek dances, gardening and hiking. I play accordion, harmonica and some guitar.
After the purchase of land on the island and building a house, I sold my company in Germany and moved with my wife Ursula to Skiathos. Over the years I learned a lot here, now good friends, both Greeks and other nationalities.
As an avid hiker and friend of pure nature I have in years studied just about every square inch of the island.
based on my own experiences, as well as the information of my many Greek friends: goat herders, fishermen using old maps of a network of a total of 197 km of hiking trails created and marked with yellow signs.
This was associated with a lot of physical effort, because many paths were overgrown.
Meanwhile, I have taken the voluntary task to maintain the trails, opening new ones, with the support of the Greek community .
I am also the author of the island and hiking guide, "Hiking in the paradise of the Aegean", a book with a card that every walker is a good source of information, there are hiking trails, general knowledge of the island of Skiathos, their culture, history, attractions and other .
Offering my services as a guide I look after an existing hiking club here, the different nationalities, and support my new home with best efforts to both nature and the environment are maintained.
About my activities, there were already several reports in the Greek Skai television and in the magazine "Northern Sporades" and German "Greek newspaper".
